Three Poems

Three Poems (Translated by Steve Bradbury)

Personal Life

The universe is vast and boundless
We greatly feared we were unsustainable
And thus invented time
Divine
Personal life
Time by chance was just all used up

I, Too, Arrived Here in the End

The universe is vast and boundless

We are unsustainable

If by chance I were someone else

Standing by your side

Your side would be a steam iron

Belching white smoke

Like someone on the verge of a long journey

Who from the look of things will not be coming back

If by chance I were myself

This would be time of my invention

Certain afternoons

I have the urge to caress

Godard

When Godard turns everything into Godard

What’s left is not Godard’s

Yet every not-Godard’s automatically is

People who like Godard also like

Jacques Derridard, Mirandard

Jane Fondard, Pablo Nerudard

Paul Lyotard, Blockbustard

Trinadard

Vespard

Author’s footnote: Jean-Luc Godard once said, “Everything can go into a film.”
