Scotia Gilroy is a writer and translator of Polish literature into English. She was selected for the 2016/2017 edition of the National Centre for Writing’s Emerging Translator Mentorship in Norwich, England, and now works full time as a translator, specializing in literary fiction and poetry. Her translations of Polish literature have been published in Panel Magazine, Widma, Asymptote, BODY Literary Journal, Opowiadanie, Culture.pl, Przekrój Magazine and Tablet, as well as in the anthologies Conradology published by Comma Press (UK) and Visible published by Two Lines Press. Her translation of Henryk Schönker’s Holocaust memoir, The Touch of an Angel, was published by Indiana University Press, and her translation of Elżbieta Kossewska’s book Polish Jews in Israel was published by Brill. Her translation of Maciek Bielawski’s short story collection Doctor Bianco and Other Stories, published by Terra Librorum, was shortlisted for the EBRD Literature Prize in 2022. Her translation of Weronika Murek’s collection of short stories Growing Southern Plants the Michurin Way is forthcoming in 2025 (MTO Press). Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Scotia is now based in Kraków, Poland.
