In the Golden Silence of Vineyards

In the golden silence of vineyards,
I’m filled with pollen and honey, bees
buzzing my head, cicadas
gently hammering me, firing
the old dreams,
until I wake with the first rain,
without tendrils of lightning
to redden autumn’s heaps of leaves.
Every drawing erased from the sky:
the abstract black and white swallows,
fresh cyclamen,
the oak’s system
blossoming along the ridges.
A golden toast is given to the hidden
snow by goblets
of rare lemon-yellow crocus.

Nel silenzio dorato delle vigne

Nel silenzio dorato delle vigne
mi riempiron di polline e di miele
le api ronzanti il capo, le cicale
mi martellarono minutamente
a fuoco i vecchi sogni.
Finché non mi destò la prima pioggia
senza più pampini di lampi
ai rosseggianti pali dell’autunno,
che cancellò dal cielo ogni disegno
astratto bianco e nero delle rondini,
e, riempiendo di freschi ciclamini
il terreno ghiandato delle querce,
fece qua e là sbocciar lungo i costoni
quasi brindisi d’oro
alla nascosta neve i lunghi calici
del raro croco giallo di limone.

My Wine

They say to me, “Why don’t you drink?
You see double, and you can forget…”
I went to wine to quench my soul.
I drank the vineyard in grass
with the celestial poles of sulfate,
and drank the harvest with its songs,
with all its gemlike wasps,
the red treaders
crushing the ripe grapes.
But the wine only weakened my legs,
and I saw that my misfortunes doubled.

Il mio vino

Mi dissero: <Perché non bevi? Tu vedi doppio; e puoi dimenticare…>.
