The Magician

This is how you peel back layers of bees / in your throat / this is how moss grows on the north side of trees / in the northern hemisphere / & how you help me unhook the fish / & keep good keep / sitting sweet / you’re growing / up in the wood / there’s a story about becoming / smaller / how / keep pretending / the man is okay he knows magic / ways to see the world / just / do this / now / you’re a big girl.

It is almost spring when they warn her what’s coming

& she remembers

& a whole parish of

mourners take her up the mountain by her hair.
