The Conscious Fruit Fly

“A conscious fruit fly would have to confront exactly the same difficulties,
the same kind of insoluble problems as man.”    -E.M. Cioran

This means fruit fly the scholar.  And fruit fly, destroyer of worlds.  As well as fruit fly commerce; Homeland Security overseen by fruit flies; the idle fruit fly; the sad fruit fly; and fruit flies without jobs.  Award winning fruit fly.  Vice President fruit fly.  Degenerate fruit fly.  Fruit fly porn and fruit fly heading home to get his shinebox.  Funny how?  Fruit fly wasting time, surfing web, shopping for shoes.  (Yet another idle fruit fly.)   Funny like I’m a clown?  I amuse you?  But again sometimes dropping bombs, the fruit fly.  Wiping out other fruit flies.  I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you?  The aspirations of a fruit fly.  A fruit fly and his difficulties.

Michael Earl Craig lives in the Shields Valley, near Livingston, Montana.  He’s the author of Can You Relax In My House; Yes, Master; Thin Kimono; and the chapbook Jombang Jet.  A new book of poems—Talkativeness—will be published by Wave Books in the spring of 2014.
