On Psalm 91

And daily, I read:
“A thousand shall fall on thy side,
and ten thousand to your right,
but it will not come near you
only thou shalt see with thine eyes…”
Try to imagine this:
a thousand corpses near you,
ten thousand murdered at your right hand,
and you stand. Stand and watch,
as if your body is half-dug into the earth.
And you see: a cloud of all those eyes.
And in your eyes, not a cloud.

Maestro says:
“You should not resort to inner contemplation
so far that you can no longer see the blossom on the cherry tree.”
Someone asks:
Why are you pontificating on cherry blossoms at the end
of autumn?
“And what, please tell me for once in my life, is an end?”
Maestro asks,
“And what, dear friends, is Autumn?”

And he turns to the wall, shaking his head.
